Frijoles Fire update: Cundiyó, Cerro Piñon and Forest Road 306 move to READY status

SANTA FE, N.M., Aug. 29, 2026—Due to increased containment and improving conditions on the Frijoles Fire, the Santa Fe County Fire Department is moving the communities of Cundiyó and Cerro Piñon, as well as the area of Borrego Mesa (on and around Forest Road 306), from SET to READY status.
READY status means residents should remain prepared for a potential evacuation if fire conditions change. Currently, there are no areas of Santa Fe County in SET or GO evacuation status associated with the Frijoles Fire.
Residents should continue to remain aware of conditions and monitor official information. Although the status has been reduced, the Frijoles Fire remains an active incident and conditions may change.
Closures
New Mexico State Road 503 remains restricted in the area and is open only to residents and emergency personnel.
The change in evacuation status does not change existing closures within the Santa Fe National Forest. All U.S. Forest Service closures associated with the Frijoles Fire remain in effect, including closures affecting Forest Road 306.
Visitors should continue to avoid closed areas and follow all posted closure signs and directions from law enforcement and U.S. Forest Service personnel.
The U.S. Forest Service is responsible for determining when roads, trails, campgrounds, wilderness areas, and other portions of the Santa Fe National Forest affected by the Frijoles Fire can safely reopen. Santa Fe County will share information regarding changes to Forest Service closures and the reopening of areas of the Santa Fe National Forest as that information becomes available.

Santa Fe County continues to coordinate with the U.S. Forest Service and other partner agencies regarding the Frijoles Fire. The U.S. Forest Service remains in command of the fire and is the official source for incident information. Check the Frijoles Fire InciWeb page for updates.
